ABOUT GOPACS
GOPACS is an initiative of the Dutch grid operators:
GOPACS is the congestion management platform of the Dutch grid operators. Through GOPACS, we try to reduce congestion in the electricity grid while taking into account the grid situations of the grid operators as well as the balance maintenance in the electricity grid at national level.
GOPACS itself is not a trading platform, but it uses existing energy trading platforms of ETPA and EPEX SPOT. Through these trading platforms, buy orders and sell orders are brought together. Orders that are not matched on the trading platform but are suitable for congestion resolution are transmitted to GOPACS.
If these orders are provided with location data and concretely contribute to solving congestion in the electricity grid, the grid operators pay the spread (the difference between the bid price and the ask price) so that a match can still be established and congestion in the electricity grid can be reduced without disturbing the balance of the Dutch electricity grid.
