The energy transition and economic growth require an electricity grid with more capacity. The grid operators are working hard on increasing this electricity grid capacity to be able to meet growing demand. However, this cannot be realised overnight. Making use of flexibility from the market can contribute to solving (expected) congestion in the electricity grid.
This is why Dutch grid operators TenneT, Stedin, Liander, Westland Infra and Enexis Groep have collectively started GOPACS. GOPACS is a fully operational system which, in this form, is unique in Europe. This platform aims to mitigate congestion in the grid in an efficient way. The collaboration also prevents an action performed by one grid operator from aggravating another grid operator’s problem.
Participating in GOPACS?
Participation in GOPACS is interesting for every market party with the ability to influence electricity consumption or the generation of electricity, which can offer this flexibility to trade.
